BOSS THE COCKTAIL: The Authentic Cuban Mojito

This summer, we’re spreading some seasonal love and teaching people how to make some of the tastiest cocktails. This week, our Boss The Cocktail series sees us link up with Cuban Rum brand Havana Club. When it came to choosing their finest cocktail, their was only going to be one answer: The Authentic Cuban Mojito.

Here’s what they told us..

“No green tea blending and no passion fruit fusion, just the perfect mojito using only the freshest ingredients, as enjoyed back in the colourful streets of Havana. Dating back to 1878, Havana Club has always produced and distilled rum right in the heart of Cuba. From selecting the finest sugar cane to assessing each individual oak barrel, the process is a true craft, overseen by ‘Maestros Roneros’ (literally meaning “master rum-makers”) who train for over 15 years! Havana Club’s man Don Jose Navarro makes sure every drop is as perfect as the last – the locals wouldn’t have it any other way.

Originating in Cuba, the mojito has gone on to become one of the world’s most iconic cocktails. It’s easy to understand why when mixing a truly authentic mojito is so simple.

We asked a Havana rum expert to tell us the best mix and steps for the optimum results. Here’s to making the best Mojito you’ve ever tasted!

Ingredients
1) One lime
2) Two teaspoons of white sugar
3) Two fresh mint sprigs
4) Havana Club 3 rum
5) Sparkling water
6) Cubed ice

Method:
Squeeze the juice of half a fresh lime into a glass & add two teaspoons of white sugar. Stir with a spoon or swirl the glass around until the sugar is dissolved.

Tap two whole fresh mint sprigs on the back of your hand to release the fragrant aromas. Fold the mint & place in your glass. Gently muddle (press) the mint a few times with the end of a wooden spoon.

Fill the glass with ice. Use your Havana Club Tres Años bottle cap to pour four caps of rum over the ice, then top up with sparkling water.
