VAULT Festival has returned to Waterloo’s Leake Street tunnels for six weeks, from the 28th January to 8th March. On offer are two headline theatre productions: Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas directed and adapted by his friend Lou Stein and an adaption of The Cement Garden by Ian McEwan. Also featuring are VAULT Lates, a series of late night club event’s on Thursday, Friday and Saturday’s. Lates will feature The House of Burlesque, Electronic Lockdown, Nabakov Arts Club and a Fat Tuesday Party presented by VAULT’s house band The Kansas Smitty’s and The Americana plus many other nights of revelry.

Vault has every kind of entertainment you could need for a great night out, plus a bar, which is open to the public every night, with free live music and comedy provided every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Having paid a recent visit, TinMan London was taken on a slow descent into the drug fuelled madness of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, with a frenzied Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo at the wheel of this playful production. Their performances were balanced by The Narrator and peppered with well portrayed hallucinatory hotel guests from the ensemble cast. With a cleverly designed small but transformative set with psychedelic animations projected onto it, we left feeling as though the effects of the characters exploits were taking their toll on us. And the adventure continued on to the Late party afterwards.

The Great Train Robbery: “In the Depth of the Ether Binge” featured live music from the dark madness of Lazarus & The Plane Crash, a jumping set from Fjokra, and the superbly wild, half naked and painted Super Best Friends Club. The dance floor was packed in between sets thanks to DJs Lucifer Box and Great Brain Robber and the night ended on a suitably surreally sexual piece of performance art by burlesque legend Fancy Chance.

VAULT Festival is now halfway through it’s season and there are still some available tickets which you are advised to snap up before they are gone! If the theatre productions are out of your budget then definitely invest in a ticket to one of the Late’s where you will find a weeks entertainment in one night. We hear that the Fat Tuesday Late, led by The Kansas Smittys is going to be a treat so get booking!
