Naomi Pilgrim is skillfully adept at making thought provoking pop music. Wait- thought provoking AND catchy? Sounds like an oxymoron, but it’s something this Swedish/ Barbadian artist accomplishes with style and grace.
She proved this on her socially conscious release “Sink Like A Stone,” and she continues to impress on her new single “I Wonder.”
Dark and soulful, “I Wonder” confuses your sense of expectation from the very beginning. Pilgrim’s crystal R&B tinged vocals are introduced by jagged, underwater glitch sounds and oriental inspired instruments.
Co-written by friends Nanna Brickman and Oskar Blondell and produced by Fredrik Okazaki, this collaborative track is expansive and rhythmic. It’s got a killer beat and just enough build and releases to keep things interesting.
The new single will appear on Pilgrim’s upcoming EP Sink Like A Stone, available June 3rd.
