I had the pleasure of witnessing the wandering minimalist RY X create an immersive musical atmosphere last night. In a world of constant saturation and overwhelmed senses, RY X simplifies the human condition to a rare purity of emotion brushed atop simple, yearning instruments.
Of all the hauntingly beautiful tracks in the artist’s repertoire, his latest release, “Deliverance” stood out to me. Like the majority of the project’s music, it’s a sparse soundscape of intense and raw honesty. However, unlike icily tumbling tracks such as “Only” and “Berlin,” this one presents the same depth with a steadier pace.
Backed with soft keys and trembling Bon Iver- esque vocals, “Deliverance” glides in slowly. It builds suspense until a full, percussive beat emerges, pushing the track forth into a solid, driving beat. This track is the latest single from the forthcoming album Dawn, available May 6.
