Picture yourself in a smokey bar wearing a pin-stripe suit, you have a chilled glass of something strong and there is a generally friendly vibe about the place. Now what better song to match that scenario than Gramatik’s ‘Hit That Jive’? This jazzy/funk influence is clear in this track but music pioneer from Slovenia infuses a much more modern twist on this old swing song by giving it a big beat and funky bass.
I’ve only recently stumbled upon this very interesting genre called Electro-Swing. It fuses traditional elements of Jazz and swing, and as Gramatik showcases in Street Bangerz Volume 2, with a very modern bass line and drum beat. The album really shows off a number of old funky classics with a modern spin and is quickly become a favorite of mine. Even though it’s a few years old, I just discovered it and thought it should be shared. Enjoy.
